The Mask and the Mirror: A Collage and Writing Workshop with Lisa Fugard and Kate Saeed

Come join us for another fun and exploratory writing and collage workshop.This time, making masquerade masks! What truths do we tell through fiction (wearing a mask)? And what is revealed in the stories we tell ourselves? Let’s explore with a fun day of mask making, writing, and storytelling!
In our morning session we’ll start with introductions, then provide you with a blank mask and instruction on how to apply collage materials, embellishments, and detail to personalize your mask. In the afternoon we’ll have inspiring writing prompts which utilize your mask to help free your own creative voice. Open to those interested in writing both fiction and non-fiction.
What’s included in this workshop:
· 1 day group gathering with instruction (limited to 8 participants). Our morning will start with introductions, writing prompts and discussion and we'll do collage work after lunch.
· We'll provide coffee, tea and pastries; lunch on your own (Praeger Brothers across the street has excellent sandwiches); we'll provide wine & cheese and celebrate our creations to end the day
· We'll provide all collage materials and tools, just bring a notebook and pen and/or laptop to write with
Cost of workshop: $150 per person

Kate Saeed is a San Diego-based writer and collage artist who studied with Nick Bantock, author of the best-selling Griffin and Sabine series. She is currently working on a collection of humorous short stories entitled Can’t be Bothered, and collaborating on a series of podcasts with Lex Nover, author of Nightmareland: Travels at the Borders of Sleep, Dreams and Wakefulness.
Zoom Writing Workshop
Thursdays in October. Start date TBD
The first hour is devoted to in class writing. I use dynamic and exciting creative prompts that will take you on surprising journeys - either in personal essays or fiction. They are crafted in such a way that they can also be used to explore characters you are working with. The rest of the class is devoted to sharing the work and then getting feedback. We always talk about the craft in these discussion
